The Tweet-A-Prize! Rules and Terms of Use.
Below are the rules, terms, definitions, odds, prohibitions, description of play, and elligibility requirements that YOU (and any other Tweet-A-Prize! player) are agreeing to whenever you play Tweet-A-Prize! We need these in place to keep things fair and legal. We reserve the right to disqualify and even ban any player who doesn’t abide by these (that includes YOU). So play fair, have fun, and go win some cool stuff
Section #1: Description of Play (DO this!):
Tweet-A-Prize! gives away prizes regularly through the official website (http://tweetaprize.com) AND Twitter account (http://twitter.com/tweetaprize). The ways in which players win these prizes vary (and we reserve the right to decide and announce the contests on a per-contest basis), but usually it’s through an exciting scavenger hunt across the web!
Before anything else, to be elligible players have to meet our elligibility requirements (listed below), and they must ReTweet the prize post on the website by hitting the “retweet” button.
Then, watch our Twitter updates! We’ll give away clues (tagged #TPclue) on our Twitter account for you to find somewhere on the web and collect. Don’t answer these! Keep them to yourself so you have an advantage
Then, we’ll ask a prize question (tagged #TPprize) based on those clues. Depending on how we announce that particular contest, we’ll either chose the prize winner by a drawing from all the correct answers, or just whoever responds correctly first (and sent out the entry tweet). Make sense? Good.
Section #2: Rules of Play:
- To actually be elligible to win a prize, every player must meet our ellgibility requirements below (“Secton #5″).
- The next step is entering to win. A contest entrant MUST retweet the prize post to be considered an “elligible entrant” (see “Section #4: Definitions” below for more). This INCLUDES actually clicking “Update” when taken to Twitter.
- The final step is to answer the prize question correctly! If you don’t complete rules #1 thru #3, your chances of winning are ZERO. If you do complete rules #1-3, you have a chance! See Section #6 for actual odds of winning (they vary).
- The Tweet-A-Prize offficials (employees) are ALWAYS the final say on interpretation of any rules. What we say goes. If you want to dispute a ruling, rule, or otherwise, fill out our contact form!
- If there are any disputes (who was first, who tweeted what, etc), we’ll refer to http://search.twitter.com as the official timestamp and record of tweets.
- If you have any questions about anything, DO NOT ASSUME! Just fill out our contact form, and we’ll get back to you ASAP!
Section #3: Prohibitions (DON’T do THIS):
We reserve the right to disqualify and/or ban any contestant, especially if that contestant engages in any of the following:
- Use of Multiple Twitter accounts to enter the same contest. Don’t do it! Multiple Twitter Accounts will at best be considered as one, and at worst get you disqualified from that contest.
- Attempts to block other players from answering. It’s just a game! No hacks or any other attempts to give yourself an unfair advantage. This is an easy way to get disqualified, or even banned.
Section #4: Definitions:
Just in case you’re a bit foggy on what we’ve been saying so far, here’s the official definitions on some important terms we use over and over. If you have a question about something you don’t see here, don’t “assume” an interpretation —ask us!
- Tag or Tagged: When we talk about tagging, we’re talking about a practice on Twitter known as hash-tagging. If you want to know all about hash-tagging, check out the Twitter Fan Wiki article on the subject. If you’re OK with just the basics, hash-tagging is the appending of a “#” and a tag-word to the end of a tweet. The tag-word usually has some significance to part or all of the Twitter community and/or the person who made the update. We use hash-tagging in two main ways:
- 1) To signify a “clue” for a hunt, we’ll add “#TPclue” at the end of the tweet.
- 2) To signify a “prize question”, we’ll add “#TPprize” at the end of the tweet.
- Clue(s) or Clue Tweet(s): These are tweets (tagged #TPclue) we send out during scavenger hunt contests that send you (and other contestants) looking for specific information on websites across the web. Clues will always give you a piece of information to find, and a link where you should look for it. You may have to click around after the link, but it should be pretty easy to find. Save the info you find (the answer to the clue), because you’ll need it for the prize question!
- Prize Question: The prize question is the question you (and other contestants) have to answer to have a chance at winning the prize for that contest. This is usually sent out as a tweet (tagged #TPprize) from the Tweet-A-Prize Twitter account. In many contests, you’ll need the answers to one or more clues in order to answer the prize question.
- Prize Post: This is the posting on the website for a specific contest, and the prize(s) being given away during that contest. contestants need to “retweet” this to enter to win!
- ReTweet: A “retweet” is when one Twitter user repeats an update by another Twitter user, and gives them credit with “RT @[originalusername]:” in front of the post (where “[originalusername]” is replaced with the Twitter user who is being “repeated”. A full technical description of the “retweet” can be found at the Twitter Fan Wiki article on the subject. When we refer to it, we’re talking about “retweeting” the announcement of the prize post for a specific contest by @tweetaprize. The easiest way to do this is to click the “retweet” button on any prize post page on the website (http://tweetaprize.com), and when it opens up Twitter.com with a preformatted “retweet”, click “Update” to “Tweet” it out. Note: if you aren’t currently logged in to Twitter, you’ll have to login before seeing the pre-formatted retweet and clicking “update”.
- Contestant: Anybody who is following @tweetaprize on Twitter and actively trying to win a current prize.
- Elligible Entrant: A contestant who meets all of our elligibility requirements below, and has also retweeted the prize post.
Section #5: Elligibility:
To be ellgible to win a prize, Tweet-A-Prize contestants must:
- Be in the United States of America (U.S.) and have a U.S. shipping address.
- Be at least 18 years of age OR have their parents’ permission.
- Have an account on Twitter.com.
- Be following @tweetaprize on Twitter.
Section #6: Odds of Winning:
Your odds of winning vary from contest to contest, but are pretty easy to figure out. On contests where the winner is chosen by a random drawing of all elligible entrants who have answered the prize question correctly, your odds of winning are ONE out of the total number of correct entrants.
For example: If you are 1 of 50 people who meet our elligibility requirements (detailed above), enter the contest by retweeting the prize post, and answer the prize question correctly, then your odds of winning would be 1 out of 50. 1 out of 50 = 1/50 = 0.02 = 2%. Your odds of winning would be 2%. Pretty simple, huh?
Section #7: Terms of Use:
By attempting to win any Tweet-A-Prize contest and/or using this website, you agree to use Tweet-A-Prize for it’s intended purposes, and no other purposes. Remember, we reserve the right to diqualify or even ban ANYBODY. If you have a question about something, save yourself some trouble and ASK US before you do it.
