Do you love Tweet-A-Prize? Do you own a blog? Well, we have a DEAL to offer YOU! If you make a post on your blog linking to Tweetaprize.com or one of the prize posts for the current week, we’ll mention you during the next week in a “THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!” post, AND we’ll tweet about you! We’re BACK! Read this update NOW!

Hey Tweeps!

Guess what? We’re BACK! This week, and the next several weeks will be PACKED with some of our biggest contests yet. Are you excited? We are!

So why have we been gone for a while in the first place? Well, it’s a long story with a pretty simple shortened version: we ran out of money and time The idea behind Tweet-A-Prize! has always been that we would finance things ourselves until we got popular enough to make some decent wages by running our contests. Unfortunately, though, we ran out of money a little before we made it there. When we stopped about a month ago we were delivering 5,000+ click-throughs to our awesome sponsors’ websites, but it still wasn’t quite enough to get make things profitable.

But, with nearly 16,000 followers, and over five thousand clicks on our links every week, we are getting pretty darned close. We figure somewhere around the 30,000 follower range (or after about 3 more months of solid contests) we should be profitable. And so, we’re doing a little searching right now, trying to find some investors to pick up the tab in the meantime. Know anyone who might be interested? Tell them to shoot me an e-mail!

In the meantime, we’re going to kick out a few more awesome weeks of contests to prove our worth. Want to see Tweet-A-Prize! continue into a new generation of bigger contests, more interactivity, and (most of all) A LOT more prizes? Then enter the contests and spread the word! Tomorrow we’ll be starting a big new contest featuring a certain internet celebrity who also dabbles a bit in the wine world. Make sure ALL of your friends here about it!!!

UH OH- @TweetAPrize SUSPENDED- Help US!

Hey TWEEPS!

A bunch of you are trying to figure out where we’ve gone — so are we! @tweetaprize was suspended today (YIKES!) and we’re trying to figure out why. In the meantime – hang tight! We’ll hopefully be back very soon. And don’t worry — any prizes that haven’t been received yet are on the way! Week 25 & 26 prizes should ship by the end of this week, and be on your doorsteps by the end of next week!

If you have any questions or comments you’ll have to contact us by e-mail instead of Twitter, but we’ll be there

AND, if you really want to help, tweet out about how you love us, leave a comment in support below, or (the BIG one) – send an e-mail to suspended@twitter.com telling them how much you want us back!

We’ve given away over $4250 worth of prizes (120 of them to be exact) and can’t WAIT to get back to giving more away! We’ll keep you updated with everything we learn RIGHT HERE, so keep checking back. Have an awesome week!

Still no word on why we were suspended or what can be done to fix it, but we’re not alone! @CleverGayle noted in the comments below that Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian (both verified accounts) were also suspended. If you want to help, retweet this post so the word gets out!

Twitter Trouble: We’re postponing ’til FRIDAY.

Hey Tweeps!

Just a quick note: the Twitter problems have put a bit of a crinkle in our plans. We’re having trouble making sure all of our tweets are going through, and a little worried about whether or not we’ll be able to keep track of all the entries for today’s contest. SO, to make sure you all get a chance to enter on an operational Twitter, we’ll be extending today’s contest (#22-2) through to FRIDAY.

Of course, that means that the other contests get pushed back too. Now, contest #22-3 will be on SATURDAY, and the BIG contest – #22-4 – will now end on SUNDAY.

Thanks for your patience on getting the tweets, clues, and questions out there! Now go win some more prizes

New Rules!

Hey Tweeps!

We’ve updated the Rules and Terms of Use for Tweet-A-Prize! Check out the new “Rules” page HERE. If you’re just looking for the basics, here’s a brief description of what has changed:

We’ve limited entries to those in the U.S. ONLY. This is basically for legal reasons, but also because we’ve been spending WAY too much money on international shipping. Hopefully this limitation will just be a temporary thing, until we get a better legal team and some more funding If your shipping address isn’t in the U.S., you can’t win right now. Sorry!
No entering with multiple Twitter accounts. Yes, we know SEVERAL of you are using multiple Twitter accounts to enter each contest. PLEASE STOP. It isn’t fair to everyone else, and it’s screwing up our numbers Starting now, if you enter with multiple Twitter accounts now, we’re going to disqualify you the first time, and ban you from Tweet-A-Prize the second time. Yikes! Don’t do it!
No blocking other contestants from entering or viewing @tweetaprize tweets. Not cool. Don’t do it. We’ll catch you, and ban you if you do.

That’s really about it. The rest is just a bunch of technical stuff to cover our butts in case somebody doesn’t like us

The thing we are repeating OVER and OVER though, is that we’re here: if you have questions about something, don’t assume, ask us! It’s hard for us to respond to everything on Twitter, but the new contact form is up and ready to be used! If you use that, you’ll probably get an e-mail response within a couple hours

We’re making UPGRADES!

That’s a good thing right? Over the next week you’ll be seeing a lot of changes (hopefully for the better!) to the website. We’re going to take some time to talk about these on a few blog posts (yeah – we have a blog now!) especially when they affect how the game is played. The first post is about the new way of entering to play: the “retweet”!

One of the things we’ve been seeing a TON of confusion about is this whole “entry tweet” thing. People were having problems keeping straight whether or not they’d sent the right entry tweet for that prize or that week. We finally got enough questions about it that we HAD to do something. So, here’s our solution: From now on, when you want to enter to win a prize, just retweet our announcement for it!

What’s a “retweet”? It’s when you repeat someone else’s tweet, giving them credit. Here’s the definitive guide for those of you who love to read

You can “retweet” our announcement of the prize in two different ways:

For you season retweeters, just watch for our announcement of the prize on Twitter (don’t worry — we’ll announce it several times) and retweet it. You’ll know it’s the right announcement because it’ll say “#prize” or “#rtthis” at the end of the tweet. Just resend out that message with “RT @tweetaprize:” on the front, and you’ll be good to go!
Or here’s the REALLY easy way: just find the prize you like on our website, and hit the “retweet” button! That button will take you to Twitter with a nice preformatted message, so you just have to hit “update”.

Which ever way you choose to go, just make sure you get that retweet out there. That will enter you into the contest for that prize. Don’t forget though: you’ll still have to watch for the prize question and answer it correctly to be able to win!

Now go retweet some prizes so you can WIN!
